The International Day of Mathematics is a global event that is celebrated to promote the study of

Mathematics. It aims at informing both the public and other stakeholders about the importance of

Mathematics Education. During the celebration, the essential roles of Mathematics in Science and

Technologies are highlighted as well as the contribution of Mathematics in improving quality of life and

the empowerment of women and girls to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030

agenda of the United Nations.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Playing with Math”. Basic and Second cycle teachers and

learners are expected to explore a variety of Mathematical games to earmark and celebrate the day.

Regional Directors are to kindly bring the above information to the attention of all Metro, Municipal and

District Directors of Education.

The regional STEM coordinators are to facilitate the organization of activities to commemorate the day within their regions.
