SHS School Selection And Placement 2024 For BECE Candidates

As part of measures to ensure a smooth placement of qualified BECE candidates, The Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Technical/ Vocational Education and Training Service (TVETS) have put in place the following arrangements for the information of parents/guardians/candidates and the general public.

A. Updates Added

Introduction of cluster of schools: These are similar schools that belong to same category which candidates may comfortably accept as alternative schools to their initial choices

B. Grouping Of  Senior High Schools/ Senior High Technical Schools

All second cycle institutions have been grouped as follows:

Category A Senior High Schools 

Category B Senior High Schools 

Category C Senior High Schools 

Category D Senior High Schools 

Appendix 1: Contains detailed Technical Institutions (TI) Programmes In Ghana

List Of Technical Schools and Technical Institution In Ghana 2024/2025

Appendix 2: Contains Detailed Subjects Of The Technical Programmes In The Sec/Tech. Institutions

Appendix 3: Contains Special Boarding Schools For The Sixth (6th) Choice

Appendix 4: Cluster Of Schools(Each Candidate Is Supposed To Select Five Schools From The Lot To Form A Cluster)

Appendix 5: Contains List Of Special Education Need (Sen) Schools

SELECTION GUIDELINES

Candidates who wish to enter SHS/TVET schools must, with guidance from parents/guardians and school authorities:

a) Select Six (6) schools and rank them in order of preference with the 1st being the most preferred choice.

b) Select programmes and residential preferences for each choice of school.

c) Select a compulsory day school as the 6th choice within 16km of the JHS attended or choose a boarding school from the list of schools in

    Appendix 3.

d) Select 5 schools

(1 category A,)

(2 category B) and at least

(2 Category C)

from appendix “4” for a consideration of 2nd placement if not placed in any of the six (6) main choices.

PLEASE NOTE THAT CANDIDATES:

a) Cannot choose more than one (1) School from Category A

b) Cannot select more than two (2) schools from Category B

c) May select five (5) schools from Category C and One (1) from Category D (Day) or Appendix 3 (Special Boarding).

d) Candidates who wish to offer purely TVET Programmes must select all six (6) TVET Institutes from CATEGORY A, B and C as Day or Boarding

e) Lastly, candidates who wish to offer Programme choice in relation to future job prospects such as Engineers. Physicians, Astronauts, etc. must, select STEM/Science in all Six(6) choices from category A, B, C as Day or Boarding.

Remember the School Selection Will Be Done at your various Junior High Schools
