The issue surfaced when the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) released the February 2024 E-pay slips, revealing discrepancies in deductions.
Double Deductions Unveiled
According to the February 2024 E-payslips, GNAT charged GH¢58.44 as dues for that month. However, it was noticed that an additional deduction of GH¢53.57 for the same purpose had already been made in January 2024.
This mistake from January carried over to the February payslips, causing confusion and dissatisfaction among teachers.
Compulsory Deductions for Teachers Mutual Fund
On top of the double deductions, GNAT enforced a compulsory deduction of GH¢100.00 for Teachers Mutual Fund dues without prior authorization from certain members. This sudden increase of GH¢50 in the base deduction sparked concerns among teachers who felt excluded from the decision-making process.
